From SIM to MicroSIM
SingTel offers MicroSIM for Broadband on Mobile, and currently, iPad is the only gadget that uses MicroSIM.
The prices for MicroSIM as follows:
- MicroSIM 7.2 Mbps at SGD$37.30 per month
- MicroSIM 14.4 Mbps at SGD$44.20 per month
- MicroSIM 21 Mbps at SGD$53.80 per month
You can find more details on MicroSIM on Lester’s blog.
As MicroSIM is not widely use, some of you might want to shave down your SIM to MicroSIM manually.
After comparing with a couple of data plans, we found out that SingTel has a new promotion plans for Data SIM at $12.95/mth. This is by far the best deal that we can find for data plan and it is not available with MicroSIM. (Not to take into account for MultiSIM)
Here how I do it to shave down the SIM.
Get the tools required:
- scissors,
- pen knife,
- ruler,
- sand paper or file (optional)
I used the pen knife as a marker and a ruler to mark the dimension. As pen or pencil makes it hard to see when doing the marking, it is best to avoid that.
After marking, use the scissors to cut out the shape without cutting the gold plated chip. You might want to give it some slack and trim down the size later.
Next use the pen knife and sand paper to trim the side slowly to fit the MicroSIM size. Finally you will get the end product, a MicroSIM in iPad MicroSIM slot.
Alternatively, there is a MicroSIM puncher that can be purchase at USD$29.00 for trimming the Sim.
For Singaporeans wants to shave your SIM card to MicroSIM, drop me an email. We can do a video to show how it is being done without hassle.
