Mobile Banking with Breeze
I would say that Standard Chartered Bank is taking mobile banking to the next level for better and richer user experience for consumer like you and me (if you are an iPhone user) with their new Standard Chartered Breeze iPhone application.
Let take a step back on the current mobile banking experience, we can only view and transfer money in our banking account, and it is pretty much limited to that. If we want to know the latest offers or promotion, we can download a separate application or we can check them online.
What Standard Chartered Bank did is to create a consumer friendly iPhone app. How consumer friendly is not for me to judge, just download the free app in iPhone and you tell me whether it is consumer friendly. I can only show my user experience with the screenshot and some explanation below.
Take a look when we launch the app:
The login will require a Username and Password. Once entered, an SMS will be send to the registered mobile number. There is also a time out timer if the account is left inactive for a period of time.
Notice that the background changes, during day it shows bright sunny clear sky and night it shows starry starry night.
Forget about debit and credit that sometimes confuse people which amount is spend or save. They renamed it to “See my money”, which shows the amount left in the bank and “Move my money” which shows transferring of money.
This belongs to the minor detail that changes the user experience.
Some of the features:
Pay Any Card – Allow us to pay all Credit Card. Isn’t it wonderful? We don’t have to queue up at AXS machine or go to different internet banking account to pay for different cards.
Check Account Balances – We can view our account transactions using calendar view or list view to keep track of our usage. So far, I don’t think there is any calendar view even in internet banking site. This will definitely useful for me.
e-Cheques – The most impressive feature would be e-Cheques. It is a new feature which allows sending cheque to your client via mobile. Imagine sending a cheque to your client without travelling down to his place or stamps and postage fees. Now, using mobile, we can send cheque on the move and the cheque will be mail/send to our client. It is going to save effort and time.
Offers – Obtain information on the latest promotion. At least I do not have to download a separate app just for this purpose. With the integration, it is much more convenient to retrieve all I need to know about my credit card.
Breeze Maps (Locate) – I would say that it really takes effort to pin all locations onto Google Maps. Yes, they are using Google Maps, apart from Breeze iPhone, I think we can also view ATMs and Bank Branches on Android.
In Touch – email Instead of calling and listening to the answering machine before we finally get to the customer service with a minor question, there is a email function which enable us to communicate non-urgent matters with the customer service directly without hassle.
The Breeze iPhone application is currently piloted and available in Singapore while an online version of the Breeze platform will be rolled out in the Asia Pacific region, starting with Singapore and Malaysia in July 2010, followed shortly by India and then Hong Kong.
There is no news on Breeze Android yet but there will be more updates for Breeze iPhone, perhaps with stock updates, interest rates, etc.
If you like to know more about Breeze iPhone, do check it out in http://breeze.standardchartered.com.sg or perhaps you can try using the mail function to ask them.
PS: There is not much things to complain about as this is one of the better mobile banking app that I had come across till now, the only thing is I am an Android user. Glad that my sister like this app.
Also to thanks Standard Chartered for their lucky draw, I’ve won an iPad 16Gb.
