The research, conducted by ten influential bloggers in Singapore from November to January of more than 350 participants, found that there are at least four users connected to their home network in 40 percent of the households surveyed and 52 percent of the respondents connect at least five devices to their home network. The survey also revealed that 65 percent use the default router supplied by their service provider while only 35 percent purchased their own router.

From smart TVs to tablets and game consoles, the increase in ownership of smart devices is contributing to a growing portion of people who are connecting multiple devices to their home network and engaging in bandwidth-intensive activities like video streaming and online gaming.

To better understand the state of home networking in Singapore, Cisco-Linksys partnered with 10 bloggers to carry out a research survey to discover how wirelessly connected Singapore households are, and how much Singaporeans know about their routers and modems.

Did you know that…

  • More than half of respondents rated their wireless connection at home as less than “good”.
  • However, majority of users have a connection speed of more than 10Mbps. This places Singapore as the sixth top nation worldwide in terms of average connection speed.
  • 65% are using default routers provided by their Internet Service Providers.
  • Among factors such as brand name, value for money, size and design, easy setup, and special features, 80% of respondents indicated that the quality of connection was most important when selecting a router.
