“I saw that you checked in there on Foursquare,” said the stranger calling the restaurant where Shea Sylvia was dining. He suggested they “hang out,” adding, “You probably shouldn’t be telling people where you are on Foursquare, should you?”
This phrase caught my attention which makes me carry on reading the article – When Foursquare Gets Creepy.
I must say that I am still a noob in Social Media and is learning more about social media each day. Recently when I met up with my friends, they have been saying that I am very active on Facebook (they are mainly Facebook users) and I have been “reporting” my whereabouts.
It seems like they have been following my trail on where I go. They are my friends, so I don’t really mind them knowing my whereabouts. However, when it comes to people who I do not know, this might be an issue. I might not want to check into certain places to let people track me down. Like my home location, my usual hang out place, etc.
In my humble opinion, it will be safer to think through when we want to check into certain location. Stalkers will not let you know that they are stalking you. There might be someĀ ulteriorĀ motive when they are stalking you. It is still better to be safe than sorry.
Also remember that nowadays many of us also share our information through different platforms like twitter which automatically publish to Facebook. So know who we are adding and communicating in our circle.
